Rule of thumb: ~2 lbs of thrust for every 100 lbs of loaded boat weight, increased by a safety buffer based on conditions. Pontoons add an extra margin — they have less water drag, but a large flat deck catches wind like a sail, requiring a stronger motor to hold position. Vessel length is used to filter out models that Haswing doesn't officially confirm for a boat that size. This is a starting point, not a strict rule — hull shape, extended trolling, or saltwater may require an even stronger motor. If you want power to spare for any condition, consider a motor 10–15 lbs stronger than recommended. If in doubt, contact us.
